Mango Mealybug Interactive Radio Campaign

TRAC FM, in partnership with CABI, successfully launched an interactive radio campaign to combat the mango mealybug, an invasive pest threatening Uganda’s fruit crops. Through engaging radio discussions, SMS polls, and expert insights, farmers across the country gained practical pest management strategies, helping safeguard their harvests and livelihoods.

Freedom of Expression, Association, and Assembly – Sauti Stream 2

Despite constitutional guarantees, exercising the freedoms of peaceful assembly, expression, association remains a challenge in Uganda. Using interactive radio and SMS, the second Sauti Stream campaign by TRAC FM and Chapter Four Uganda held a nationwide conversation on perceptions and implementation of these rights to guide advocacy and policy.

The VOICES Campaign: Civil Registration and Vital Statistics

Ahead of Uganda’s mass enrollment and renewal exercise in 2024, The VOICES Campaign by TRAC FM and HEPS Uganda worked to enhance civil registration services in Uganda. The interactive radio campaign addressed barriers to birth registration and National ID enrollment, ensuring that all Ugandans have access to ID enrollment and renewal services.

Human Rights Awareness – The Sauti Stream 1

TRAC FM and Faraja Africa Foundation led the Sauti Stream campaign to tackle human rights ignorance in Uganda. The interactive radio campaign created a national conversation on Human Rights. Poll data was used by the National Youth Parliament to make a recommendation to the Parliament of Uganda for the creation of a Human Rights curriculum in schools.

No More Silence 1 – Teenage Pregnancies

Uganda has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in East Africa at 25%, with over 1,000 girls under 19 falling pregnant each day (UNICEF Uganda; Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, 2022). TRAC FM and Amref Health Africa’s interactive radio campaign, No More Silence, engaged communities on the causes and prevention of teenage pregnancies through both community-based and government approaches.

COVID 19 Test and Treat

TRAC FM partnered with Health Equity and Policy Research (HEPS) to conduct interactive radio talk shows in Uganda aimed at dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding COVID-19 testing and treatment, as well as increasing uptake of COVID-19 testing services in the country.

iTECH – Public engagement and data collection on stillbirth in Uganda

TRAC FM, in collaboration with iTECH and White Ribbon Alliance Uganda, conducted an interactive radio campaign to raise awareness about stillbirth prevention in Uganda. Using SMS polls, talk shows, and community engagement, the campaign gathered insights on maternal healthcare challenges, antenatal care, and the role of traditional birth attendants. The findings highlighted key barriers to early antenatal visits and the need for improved healthcare communication.

WASH and Learn

Trac FM will amplify the voices of communities through a radio campaign to gather views on the impact of the WASH and Learn program and promote evidence-based advocacy with duty bearers.
