LRA & Joseph Kony

Trac FM looks into local perceptions and lets people, who are often unheard, give their opinion on events. One of the most evident examples of the disconnect between local views and global news may be the International campaign against Joseph Kony and the Lord Resistance Army (LRA).

POLL QUESTION.

Location Responses

Over the past 3 years, Trac FM has conducted several radio polls related to the LRA war that ravaged Northern Uganda from 1987 to 2006.

Joseph Kony became a household name thanks to a 30-minute video in 2012 that spread across the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc

The video above shows a reaction to the ‘Kony 2012 video’ and lets you see the disconnect between the perceptions of the LRA war in Uganda and the way it is depicted in Western Media. The same goes for the case of LRA Commander Dominic Ongwen who surrendered in 2015 and was tried at the ICC in the Hague.

The polls below paint a picture of the perception of first hand victims of the war. All polls were extensively discussed during live broadcasts on various radio stations in Northern Uganda.
